Pieter Van den Zegel is a Belgian artist whose practice explores pareidolia through symmetry and the relationship between chaos and creation.

Working across textiles, prints, objects, and image-making, he develops a distinctive visual language in which abstract forms transform into imagined faces, creatures, and organisms. His process often begins with chance: stains, folds, fragments, and accidental shapes become starting points for controlled systems of mirroring and repetition.

Drawing inspiration from biology, evolution and the subconscious, Van den Zegel creates works that exist somewhere between the familiar and the unknown. Rather than reproducing reality, he is interested in inventing new forms and allowing the viewer’s imagination to complete the image.

Each work is part of an ongoing investigation into how we see, recognise, and create meaning — and how chaos, when given structure, can become something entirely new.
